"Koito Potter" is in Takayama city, Gifu Prefecture.
In 1620's, Shigeyori Kanamori, the lord of Takayama, invited a potter from Kyoto to produce pottery in this area. It is the start of Koito Pottery.
You can get Koito Pottery only here in Takayama. The characteristic is textures of glaze called "Irabo-glaze". "Irabo-blue" is the original colour. The texture is a bit tough when you buy them but it is going to be smoother after use. The colour also gets better.
The shape is interesting. The edge of these coffee cups and dishes is like a flower. They are so lovely and very popular with customers.
The flower vases are very stylish and sophisticated! Actually they got "Craft Design Award". You can put the vases on the table and also hang them on the wall.

The shop staff was very kind. When I visited Koito Pottery, the shop staff gave me some chopstick rests after shopping. They are kind, free gift from her.( Usually you have to buy them, but this time I bought a lot of pottery so she gave me some)
There is kanji on it. It was an inverse version of ”馬” (read as uma, means horse) She explained that "Hidariuma" ( inverse version of uma) means "good luck".
Why does hidariuma mean "good luck?"
uma ⇄ mau (uma's spelling reordered of uma)
"mau" means dance. Many years ago, people danced in celebration. That is why the inverse version of uma, hidariuma means "good luck."
